I have become obsessed with the idea of physical, personal, professional, and financial freedom after retirement. I took early retirement from school teaching at 56 years old. Teaching was not my first choice career. But I ended up being good at it. After 21 years, I felt stuck in a job with little appreciation, a lack of control, low compensation, and often, tiring work. I just wanted out. At first, I felt like a free man but after only a few months, I knew I was anything but free. I was bored and restless and still financially unable to do the things I wanted to do in my life. I was comfortable, financially, but I wanted to create a legacy for my kids and grandkids. I wanted the money and freedom to travel where and when I wanted. That’s when I discovered I was in a perfect position and at the perfect age to recreate myself, my sense of purpose and passion, my health, my income, and my freedom. The freedom to do what I want, with the people I love, where I want, and in the way that I want.
